Apparently if you’ve been working with Apple Pro Apps on Panther (Mac OS X 10.3), you may experience some odd quirks of behaviour on updating to Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4). The KB document, “Pro applications on PowerPC computers may quit unexpectedly on launch or quit, or display non-customary menus and dialogs”, explains the problem and provides steps for how to reinstall certain updates which will correct the issue.
