The new Matrox MXO has been generating some buzz amongst some of the FCP folk I’ve encountered down here.* It’s a new mini-breakout box, designed to work with a range of Mac systems (Power Mac G5, iMac, and MacBook Pro). It’s principal purpose is to convert DVI to broadcast-quality HD and SD video, but it also provides hardware acceleration and performs “artifact elimination and gamma correction” to transform a second DVI display into cost-effective reference monitor.

*Those with short memories perhaps!

Yeah, short memories for folks that haven’t been burned with a DigiSuite product. I’ve got one gathering dust in my dining room. Oh yeah, dining room… the wife is furious that it sits there. She sez, “sell it on eBay…” I say, “no one in their right mind would buy a Matrox product…” She says, “how do you know if you don’t try?”. I say, “I tried.”
