Feeling Hot

You may have noticed a distinct lack of activity in these parts over the last few months and whenever I’ve tried to get back into it new posts have been erratic. I didn’t mean to drop off the map but I had good reason — I was editing and post-supervising a short film. Centigrade, directed by Colin Cunningham, received it’s premiere at the Montréal World Film Festival last month and was also featured in the Palm Springs Short Film Festival.

The film was recorded on DVCPRO HD using a AG-HVX200 and even discriminating eyes have been astonished with the quality of the image DP Kevin Hall managed to wrangle from the tiny beast.

The entire post process happened within Final Cut Studio right up to final mastering and transfer to 35mm. A confluence of events meant that we ended up using the Matrox MXO and an Apple 23-inch Cinema Display for all the colour correction. I’ve been thrilled with people’s reactions.

You’ll be able to form an opinion yourself next month when Centigrade makes its Vancouver premiere at the VIFF — I’ll post more details of screening times when the final schedule is published 21h00, 7th October and 16h00, 8th October as part of the Storm Surge short program at the Cinematheque.
