UPDATE 14 March 2007: A new KB document indicates that real-time playback in FCP 5.1 through to 5.1.2 may suffer on installation of this update. The solution is to move to the recently released Final Cut Pro 5.1.4. That article also points to a updated recommendation (previously mentioned in October last year) to install RAM in a Mac Pro as symmetrical pairs for optimum performance.
As usual you should exercise caution before updating, especially if you’re in the middle of a project. Clearly in this instance the update addresses a problem you may just have introduced, but check compatibility with the third-party products you rely on and make sure you have time to troubleshoot any problems that may arise.
Thanks to Don Greening for the tip.
