MXO 2.1

I haven’t really written a lot about my love for the Matrox MXO, but I feel it is my duty to report how completely smitten I have become with the little box.

I started playing with one just after NAB this year and my experience grading Centigrade left me astonished. For I was absolutely certain that there would be a hidden flaw or glitch somewhere in the system that would mean my downfall, but as i indicated back in September, the shots I corrected with the MXO in FCP were not only accepted for the transfer to 35mm, the company who undertook that task want to use the footage to show off how good P2 media can look.

So, with all that in mind, imagine how delighted I was very to discover that the new MXO 2.1 software (currently in beta) brings not only Leopard support, but compatibility with Color 1.0.2. Monitoring output from Color really is the Holy Grail for this product and I can’t wait to try it out properly. We’re currently testing the workflow on an animation I’m working on at the NFB and I’ll post an update to let you know how we get on.

UPDATE 01 December 2007: Don Greening sent a helpful reminder that I should point to the new MXO review Shane Ross has posted on Creative Cow. It was Shane’s writing about the MXO back in March and Matt Geller’s announcement that Meta Media Technologies were partnering with Matrox for HD Expo LA that originally turned my head.
