Apple have published a new KB article, “Final Cut Studio: About external video-monitoring conflicts”, which describes how FCP, DVD Studio Pro, and Motion may sometimes compete for the same external device. To resolve the issue Apple suggest you either open applications separately, quit and re-launch, or deactivate external video output in one of application if you run applications simultaneously.
