Final Cut Pro 5.1.2
Today Apple released Final Cut Pro 5.1.2, which (as Matt notes in the forum) is available through Software Update and by direct download. Details appear scarce at the moment, with the FCP Late Breaking News currently unavailable through FCP, Software Update, and the Apple Support site.
I’ll update as I find out more, but the initial information I’m able to access from Apple simply states:

Until then Larry Jordan continues to offer the most details!
UPDATE 26 September 2006: Oh, 5.1.2 is a big update for Final Cut Pro! As Larry and others present at IBC reported, Apple has added a lot of new features and modifications to the application. The Late-Breaking News document has finally surfaced and it contains almost 15 pages of information about the new release. As previously announced the update includes:
- Support for new formats in both HDV and DVCPRO HD codecs, including 1080p and 720p25,
- Improved support for Panasonic P2,
- Native XDCAM HD support, including 35 Mbps VBR media,
- Real-Time 30Mbps MPEG IMX compatibility,
- PCI Express compatibility for the new Mac Pro systems,
- The ability to switch Broadcast WAVE Audio File Timecode to Drop Frame,
- Keyboard commands to navigate between tabs in the active window*,
- Revisions to the way Master Clips and Multiclip Master Clips behave,
- Improved, customisable Real-Time Video Scopes, in which performance is based on your system’s capabilities,
- Support for FxPlug Filters, which means FCP can work directly with “hardware accelerated technologies” including, OpenGL, CoreGraphics, and CoreImage**,
- Full Frame Bars and Tone Generators for PAL formats,
- New Gamma Controls for imported stills,
- Channel Mapping for audio output of multiple tracks using RS-422 supported decks,
- Numerous fixes for EDL support,
- Support for version 3 of the Final Cut Pro XML Interchange Format,
- QuickTime Metadata integration, and
- (One for the developers) Support for 7 custom “Apple Events” to enable third-party applications to work directly within FCP.***
*I may be reading the document incorrectly, but I had to manually assign these (Cmd-] for Select Next Tab and Cmd-[ for Select Previous Tab) and wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience? Interestingly this was a requested during this week’s FCP 200 class!
**As my love affair with Motion continues unabashed, I’m very excited about this feature and have already thrown caution to the wind and selected the FxPlug Filters as my preferred collection!
***Automatic Duck are an example of company creating tools that achieve this kind of integration successfully.
