FCP 5.1.4

With all the rumblings and grumblings about the recent 5.1.3 update, the release of Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 should come as blessed relief. Essentially a maintenance release, once you’ve installed the new software FxPlug plug-ins and XML import should once again work as expected!

Early reports indicate that the update addresses a number of the issues identified with 5.1.3, but according to posts on the Creative Cow, there might be some outstanding problems with third party software, specifically Boris Red. I’ll keep my ear to the ground, but let us know what you hear anything in the meantime.

If you’re feeling brave and have time to troubleshoot any problems that might arrise, you can take the plunge via Software Update or direct download. If you’ve already installed 5.1.3 and it’s broken something, I’d recommend you look to the update before you attempt to rollback to a previous version as this in itself could create issues. If you do find that you’ve come unstuck, Apple has a KB document, “Final Cut Pro: Troubleshooting Basics”, which covers how to properly un-install FCP 5.

UPDATE 23 February 2007: Wes Plate has confirmed the new update fixes the problem with Automatic Duck software and Shane Ross is pleased to have Colorista back!
