FCP 5.1.3

Compared the mammoth update that was 5.1.2, the newly released Final Cut Pro 5.1.3 fixes render file compatibility between Intel-based and PPC-based Mac computers, keyboard layout issues, and a problem with cross dissolves in nested sequences.

The new software is available through Software Update and direct download.

UPDATE 19 February 2006: Apparently the 5.1.3 update has broken Automatic Duck’s Pro Import plug-in and they’ve issued a warning about updating if you rely on their software.

If you go to the FCP forum @ Creative Cow there’s a ton of horror stories about the 5.1.3 upgrade, from the broken FX Plug architecture to not being able to properly type changes to clip names in the browser.

Shane Ross has kindly posted the link to a resource for going back to FCP 5.1.2 for those who are having trouble since upgrading to 5.1.3. At the Apple web site it would seem that clicking on the link for the 5.1.2 upgrade automatically directs you to the 5.1.3 upgrade, so getting the earlier version is not possible at the moment. Here is the URL from Shane:

The uninstall steps posted on the Red Giant web site are specifically for FCP 4.x. While they work for the most part, I’d recommend using the steps I’ve linked to in the 5.1.4 post if you ever have to un-install FCP 5.

Now that Apple appear to have addressed the issues, it may be more prudent to update and stay current once the dust settles.
