Most of us are aware of the FCS “Hardware Compatibility Guide”, which lists the devices Apple have qualified to work with their software and everyone should check it before rashly diving into a project to know whether their workflow is officially supported. That said, even some qualified devices can display their quirks, different tape head alignment can render footage shot with one VTR unreadable by another. In a new KB article, “Final Cut Pro: Timecode Error when capturing from Canon XL H1”, Apple address this issue head-on. If you experience a problem with your media and are certain there is nothing wrong with your tape, you may need to modify your software settings or locate the original recording device before you can properly capture footage.
