Every experienced FCP editor knows that timecode is sacred. The latest Knowledge Base support document from Apple addresses the perils of recording video with different timecode standards. Titled, “Final Cut Pro: Avoid using both drop frame and non-drop frame timecode on the same tape”, the article explains that FCP may act unpredictably if you mix different timecode and you’re likely to encounter problems in your workflow if you later need to conform your media. The recommended solution is to work with a single standard, but if you do encounter a tape with mixed formats Apple suggest you treat the disparate sections as different reels.
