Ken Stone has posted a new article by Andrew Balis, in which he details “What’s New in Final Cut 5.1.2”. If you’re hovering over the update button, or curious about what your new software can do, this piece provides some nice illustrated examples to help you become familiar with the latest features.

I haven’t had the patience/time to sit back and upgrade yet, so can’t speak to personal experience on this, but have seen some people having a very weird issue with 5.1.2. Basically, footage they import with the HVX (the HVX (P2) related upgrade in 5.1.2 is huge from the images I’ve seen) is coming in with crazy frame rates. People who shot in 24pN are getting imported footage reading at stuff like 12, 18, and someone had something like 12.99 or something really peculiar like that. There were a couple that have claimed such a problem. Never heard if they cleared it up or not, but if you’re in the middle of a production w/ the HVX, I might consider holding off, just incase there is some kind of hidden hiccup/software conflict that’s not yet well known/identified. Though I guess in general one is better to not tinker with a system in the middle of a production.
