Conversations With Other Women (2005)

I’ve always wanted to like Mike Figgis’ Timecode more than I do. There was something about the idea that caught my attention, but ultimately I think it’s more a curious experiment than it is a satisfying film. I hoping the same will not be true of Conversations with Other Women, which also utilises split-screen and is the subject of the most recent profile on the Apple Pro site.

Shot in HD and edited with FCP by director, Hans Conosa, the film aims to tell a love story from both sides simultanenously—hence the divided screen, which apparently acts as a metaphor for the relationship at the centre of the narrative. Conversations… has enjoyed some success on the festival circuit and is about to embark on a limited release in the States. There doesn’t appear to be Canadian theatrical release planned at the moment, but I hope the film will make its way to Vancouver sometime in the near future.
