RED Digital Cinema have announced a comprehensive list of prices for the Red One and assorted accessories.
Things have shifted slightly from the initial specifications and predicted costs, but they were always clear to reserve that prerogative. Stuart English has posted a brief summary of the changes so that everyone can be clear about what the situation is now. Despite this it’s still interesting to note the speculation over at HD4NDs and on the Reduser forum about how this will effect those who have placed early reservations and how, in the cold light of day, they’ll reconcile the actual cost with their expectations. Mike Curtis estimates a 4K package will be in the region of US$40000, which is still shocking given the current alternatives. It is a big leap for those used to DV budgets and hopefully no-one’s really been caught off-guard as the RED folks have been fairly clear about their plans.
I’m still awaiting workflow details and I’m looking forward to finding out more about the REDCINE software. The countdown to NAB 2007 continues…
I’ve also noted that there are some Vancouverites amongst the early adopters, so I’ll have to keep an eye out to for my first local sighting!

The fully optioned version really does look like the Cylons or the Borg had a big hand in its development.
