As I teach in a Media Arts program at an art school, I probably see more projects that-don’t-quite-fit-in-the-mainstream than most. It’s great to see Apple celebrate work in that vein and recognise that alongside the big studio pictures, the independent dramas, and the commercial agencies, artists like Kyoto-based, Takagi Masakatsu use their tools too—in this case FCP and Logic.
While Masakatsu is clearly successful and well-established in his own right, with an extensive exhibition record and prolific body of work, his practice appears to be that of an artisan and his story points to the range of work currently being undertaken on the Mac that’s a little less visible than its industrial counterparts.
