On 06 September, International Arts Initiatives will present renowned artist, Laurie Anderson in conversation at Ironworks Studios.

Most of you are probably familiar with Anderson’s extensive body of work, which has intersected with FCP from time to time. I’ve been fortunate to see her perform a few times, first as part of London’s Meltdown, which she curated in 1997 and most recently, her stunning performance, The End of the Moon in Vancouver two years ago. Needless to say, I’m very much looking forward to this next visit.

Advance tickets are CDN$32, available through Highlife and Zulu Records.

“Laurie Anderson is one of the world’s most accomplished performance artists. In the course of her career as visual artist, composer, poet, storyteller, photographer, filmmaker, electronics wiz, vocalist and instrumentalist, she has consistently charmed her audiences the world over.

In a special intimate evening at the Ironworks Studio. Laurie will share her insightful and thought-provoking observations on her work and the world, in conversation with Paul Armstrong, director of International Arts Initiatives. Laurie will also take the opportunity to share a selection from her film projects including recently commissioned - Hidden Inside Mountains

Hidden Inside Mountains, commissioned by EXPO 2005 Aichi, Japan, is a film of short stoies about nature, artifice and dreams. Located in a fictitious world of theatrical spaces, the stoies unfold through music, gesture, text passages and the poetry of variously juxtaposed, evocative visual images. Both joy and loss are expressed in the film’s dream-like texts, written by Laurie and shown in both Japaese and English. The film’s haunting music features violins, bells, dog barks and melody as well as many of Laurie Anderson’s signature electronic sounds and features a guest appearance of Laurie’s pet dog Lolabelle.” - IAI Press Release
