Between the Lines

Ken Stone has just posted a new tutorial, “Creating Subtitles in DVD Studio Pro 4”. Working to his usual high standard, Ken covers a lot of territory—including creating, formatting, and setting language preferences—as well as answering most of the common questions about subtitle streams and the DVD Specification along the way. If you’ve been thinking about adding new features to your DVD projects, Ken’s tips should go a long way to getting you started.

Hi Miguel,

The short answer is yes, but you need to jump through a couple of hoops and use a third-party tool like zeitAnker Annotation Edit.

  1. Select the track with subtitles in DVD SP and choose File > Export > Item Description.
  2. Name and save the file.
  3. In Annotation Edit, choose File > Open and select the file you created from DVD SP.
  4. Choose File > Export As… and choose the type of file you want to create (eg a Tabbed Text file).

Let me know if that works for you.

In the future it might be better to create your subtitles in a text file to begin with, then import that file into DVD SP.
