Color 1.0.2

If the Color 1.0.2 release notes, which read like a mini-manual, are anything to go by, the latest update to Apple’s newest Pro App is a significant one.

Alongside Leopard compatibility (which in itself is huge!), the new software includes numerous UI fixes (Undo commands, keyboard shortcuts, text fields and control surfaces), better handling of Motion, LiveType and Offline Media files, as well as workflow support for AVCHD, AVC-Intra and XDCAM EX codecs. There are also improvements to the “Round Trip” process with FCP to address issues when exporting upconverted media files, working with clips that start with 00:00:00:00 timecode or using transitions within nested sequences. Problems relating to aspect ratio and field dominance, as well as noise artefacts introduced by image processing have been fixed. There are also changes to the Reconform command and the way Color renders clips with speed effects.

With Color 1.0.2 you can now choose any volume or directory to save your Color projects. Playback performance is no longer affected by superimposed text tracks, grades that have been copied and pasted are Autosaved properly, and rendering will now continue uninterrupted when Color is hidden. Additional changes include fixes to the behaviour of the Color FX room and Secondary adjustments are now properly represented in the built-in video scopes.

Known issues at this time include conflicts with Motion Tracking and speed-adjusted clips and round-trip workflow with FCP multiclip sequences.

Color 1.0.2 recommended for all users and is available via Software Update or direct download.
